Postcard, From Thjórsárdalur, 'Gjáin'
Text on back of card: Gjáin í Þjórsárdal - 'the ravine in Thor´s valley' is an oasis of incredible natural beauty in the highlands with waterfalls such as Gjárfoss (insert) in the Rauðá (Red River) and lush vegetation. Populated in the Viking age, an eruption of Hekla decimated the area in 1104. Reconstructions of old farms like Stöng and Þjóðveldisbærinn are based on archeological finds in the Hekla ash and are nearby.
