Northern Lights

The Northern Lights can be seen in Iceland from around September to mid-April depending on weather and light conditions. Caused by highly charged particles ejected from the sun during solar activity and carried by solar winds, these particles can enter the atmosphere where the magnetic field of the earth is less - close to the northern and southern poles. When they collide with molecules in the earth's atmosphere they are often seen as glowing ribbon-like lights.
