Yule Lads Figurines
Icelandic folklore is rich in its tales of trolls and elves - and many of the stories and traditions surrounding Yuletide and Christmas still play their part in the present culture. One such folktale is that of the Yule Lads - thirteen rascally lads, their troll parents Grýla and Leppalúði and a huge, hungry cat that used to terrify children and adults alike. These legendary characters journeyed down from the mountains to farms and villages around Yuletide and showed up especially wherever they could find food or play little pranks. Their names reflect what they did in the old days, but over time the lads have become somewhat better behaved and nowadays they even leave little gifts for children during Yuletide.
Brian Pilkington, artist and author, has designed these figurines exclusively for Sólarfilma as well as Yule Lads ornaments, playing cards, glassware, mugs and more.
