Text on back of card: The hot spring Geysir in Haukadalur is estimated to have been formed in the 13th century as a result of a powerful earthquake. It has erupted for many centuries, but by 1916 eruptions had all but ceased except in the few instances of artificially generated eruptions (by pouring soap into the channel).
